From the great mind that brought you Cashiers Du Cinéma, Blackout Book is a composition notebook sized collection of three medium length stories (and an interview) from three artists working in a mode reminiscent of the wide open space of 90’s alternative space — before notions of that time became a genre unto itself. Comics Blogger fav Tana Oshima offers up The Fallen Princess a sharp look at an inscrutable woman evaluating possible suitors in her flat iconographic style. David Cardoza has a white knuckled tirade about struggling with drug addiction featuring prickly writing, heavy inking and a overwhlmeing air of intensity. Carly McKown’s story is a surrealist feminist lark drawing in a loose by refined sketchbook style with some real visceral cartooning moments and strong bones. Things are rounded out by a interview with current NYC underground comics gogetter George Olsen (Clamp Magazine.)
